Dorset Quarry
Dorset Quarry is the oldest marble quarry in the US (1785) and because they mined a little too deeply it now is an excellent place for a summer dip. Expansive and large enough to swim. Some people jump off the rocks on the side but be careful... some accidents have happened. The Lower Quarry is visible from the road and is usually quite a scene on muggy weekends. Footpaths lead to the far less frequented clothing-optional Upper Quarry. [photo from NY TImes]
