4th of July parade obsession
Bristol, RI
This town is known for its obsession with its 4th of July parade. Just look at any public road--the double yellow lines have been repainted red white and blue to serve as a year-round parade-promoter. Apparently Bristol, Rhode Island has held an Independence Day celebration for more years in a row than other town in America.
After weeks of preparations and actual walking rehearsals, the big show marches through the center of town July 4. Get there early! Streets are closed off as the throngs line the route well in advance... consider taking a boat to town.

When i lived in San Francisco, we were setting off bottle rockets in the middle of the street in a drunken stupor and not 1 policeman, fire-truck, angry neighbor showed up. It was awesome. Can you do that in Rhode Island?
