FAQ - Safety

How do you protect my privacy?
For a major run-down on what you need to know about Socialight and your privacy, see our Privacy Policy. The basics are that we protect your information using industry standard encryption and storage. When it comes to your location, the only time other users may discover your location is if you create a Sticky Note because these are stuck to actual places. So think first before creating a Sticky Note where you are. If you might not want others to know where you are, don't create the note, or create one that only you and your friends can see. In short, nobody can see where you are or where you've been if you don't create notes. Even if you do, you control who can see or receive this information. Other than that, your location may be shared with us in order to provide you with service, but we won't share this with anyone else without you active and express consent.

If I use Socialight, can everyone tell where I've been?
Socialight is not a passive friend tracker. People can only tell where you've been when you create Sticky Notes. If you want to let people know where you are, go for it, but be safe and think twice before letting others know where you are. In future we may allow you to notify certain people when you tell us that you've changed your location. This is useful for friends, but make sure you know the people you choose to notify. If you aren't sure, don't use this feature (it's off by default).

Ok - Sticky Notes are fun. But I'm getting so many it's annoying. How do I turn this thing down?
Sometimes, you may want to know about anything and everything around you, but at other times, you may only want to know about stuff from the people you choose. You can control these settings in your preferences & settings.

Do you have some tips for staying safe while using Socialight?
This is important so listen closely! Only accept contact requests from people you know and trust. If you're not sure, don't accept. Think twice before creating a Sticky Note and deciding who can see it. If you think you might not want certain people seeing a note, don't post it for them. Never agree to meet people you don't know. If you follow these rules and use common sense, you'll have a lot of fun.
